Victoria Lucas’s new wall based sculpture edition is now available to purchase through Threshold Editions.
A Quarry, 2021 is part of an ongoing body of work in response to a period of research and production at an abandoned rural quarry in Derbyshire, near the artist’s home in Sheffield. The sculpture has been the catalyst for The Strata of Things (I, II and III), a series of sculptures made for Lucas’s solo exhibition at Threshold.
Lucas has digitally and physically manipulated a photographic image of the quarry to deconstruct and reform a fragment of this site. Relocating it into the homes of its owners. We see this site through the lens of her experiences in this ex-industrial space, which is now overgrown with mosses, lichens and other plant matter.
An edition of 10, each sculpture has been hand cut by Lucas to interrupt our view of the quarry and mirror the repetetive action of carving into rock and the slow building up of sedimentary layers.
The cut strands of the sculpture will naturally wilt with gravity, time, and the ambient humidity of the space. This is part of the work and as a result the depth of the work will vary.

The edition is signed on the reverse and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a The Strata of Things visual essay with signed risograph print Ancestor.
As each piece is hand finished there may be slight variations from the image shown.
The work can be displayed directly on a wall with discrete magnetic fixings that are supplied with the edition. Alternatively it would be suitable for framing. Please get in touch if you need a recommendation for a framer in Yorkshire. When framing remember to accomodate for the drop of the sculpture.
Editions will be dispatched within 2 weeks of ordering and posted in the UK using a Royal Mail signed for service.

All sales are divided equally between the artist and Threshold, where it will be used to fund future exhibitions and events.
