Alice Chandler: Privet
Publication with limited edition risograph print SOLD OUT
Alice Chandler has written a visual essay to accompany her exhibition Privet at Threshold.
The publication explores Chandler’s response to developing new sculptures for the outdoor garden space at Threshold, and documents her etymological investigation into the language, myths, histories and aesthetic qualities of the common privet hedge.
Through making her sculptures for Privet, Chandler has found connections between the privet plant (Ligustrum vulgare) and Suffragette banner making, viruses, decorative mosaics, labyrinths and patchwork quilts. The essay weaves together these ideas and is interspersed with images of Privet in progress.
This visual essay gives a unique insight into Chandler’s research driven studio practice, which is informed by the intersections between art, craft and design and interrogates our relationship with the domestic, functional and wearable.
The publication also includes a signed limited edition risograph print.
